Holy Week: Maundy Thursday
Dear [First Name]
The cathedral is quiet right now but within a few hours the triduum will begin. The triduum is the series of things that happen in church between Maundy Thursday and Easter Day. Essentially it is one service not a number of services - none of them end with a blessing until we reach the great feast itself.
The Maundy Thursday service is always one of the most beautiful of the year. This year we have particularly beautiful music from the choir who will be singing the Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd and anthems including I give to you a new commandment by Peter Nardone and Ola Gjielo's Ubi Caritas.
A couple of years ago I wrote some detailed descriptions of the triduum on my blog.
You can find the one for Maundy Thursday here: http://thurible.net/2011/04/20/triduum-1-the-maundy-thursday/
All good wishes
