Dear [First Name]
Today (15 June) is the Feast of Corpus Christi, the day we give thanks for the institution of the communion service. We'll be keeping this with a eucharist at 7.30 pm. This promises to be quite a feast - the choir will be singing the glorious mass setting the Messe Solennelle by Vierne as well as Panis Angelicus. The service will end with the blessed sacrament being carried in state around the cathedral and the service will end with benediction.
If you are able to come and happen to have some flower petals available from the garden, please bring them to the sacristy by 7 pm.
You will probably be aware of the decision that was taken last week by the General Synod in Edinburgh in relation to marriage. The synod decided to allow those clergy who wish to conduct the marriages of same-sex couples to do so. St Mary's has been taking a lead in campaigning for this for some time and we expect to be one of the first churches in the Scottish Episcopal Church to conduct such a wedding in the autumn this year. (It will take a few months for the nomination paperwork to be completed). Over the next couple of weeks I will be revising the congregational website pages on marriage to ensure that they are inclusive of all couples who can get married here.
As we're in the middle of the West End Festival, there's a couple of musical events to highlight. In particular, a concert by the Amicus Orchestra - works by Sibelius, Haydn and Debussy on Saturday 17 June at 7.30 pm. Tickets: www.priorbooking.com/u/amicusorchestra
The Teleman Ensemble have their 40th anniversary concert on Saturday 24 June at 7.30 pm with a concert of works by Telemann, Vivaldi, Bach and Handel. Tickets on the door - £10 (£5)
