St Mary's Cathedral - open, inclusive, welcoming

Dear [First Name]

Just to let you know about a couple of things coming up at St Mary's.

Pride Next weekend will be Glasgow's Pride March. As has been the case for a number of years, there will be a group of Episcopalians marching and this year there will be a pop-up church stall within the Pride enclosure on Glasgow Green.

The meeting point for Episcopalians wanting to march is by the fountain outside the People's Palace on Glasgow Green from 11 am on 19 August 2017.  Straight allies are particularly welcome and have made up the majority of those marching in the SEC section in recent years.
There is a facebook event which can be used to invite people here: https://www.facebook.com/events/140185499902275/

How to be a Nun On Wednesday 30 August at 7.30pm in the Synod Hall, St Mary’s School of Spirituality will be hosting an evening with the Rev Sister Helena and Sister AJ, members of the Companions of St Luke. AJ and Helena will speak about the Benedictine ethos of their Order, how this has something to offer to all people of faith, a little of their own life stories and what has brought them to St Mary’s Cathedral. All are welcome. For more information please visit http://www.companions-osb.org/ or contact the Vice Provost. Cake will be provided.

Vice Provost’s Sabbatical Last October the Vestry and the Bishop approved plans for the Vice Provost to take sabbatical leave from 12 September-12 December 2017. Cedric will begin the sabbatical with a pilgrimage walk from Melrose in the Scottish Borders to Lindisfarne, the isle of St Cuthbert. He will then take a holiday before travelling to Jerusalem where he will meet people from different communities there and prepare for the 2018 St Mary’s and diocesan pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After a short time at home he will attend a course on spirituality and sexuality at Sarum College, Salisbury. He will then head to Northumberland for a retreat in a community there to pray, reflect and write. The sabbatical will end as he joins a consultation at St George’s House Windsor on the Christian use of theological language as it pertains to the Holy Land. He is deeply appreciative for the opportunity granted and looks forward to sharing his experiences on his return.

Baptism The next dates when we will be celebrating baptisms at the 10.30 service are tomorrow - 13 August 2017 and 1 October 2017. More details on the baptism section on the website.

Best regards

The Very Rev Kelvin Holdsworth
