Pentecost and upcoming dates

St Mary's Cathedral - open, inclusive, welcoming

Dear [First Name]

Just a reminder that this Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost. If you are going to be around in the congregation on Sunday morning, remember that we mark this feast in two ways. Firstly, if you've got national dress, please wear it. Secondly, if you speak a language other than English, you are invited to pray the Lord's prayer in your own language. (In the liturgy we remember people from all around the world hearing the good news in Jerusalem).

Over the next few weeks, there's quite a lot happening. Sunday 22 May is Trinity Sunday and on the following Thursday (26 May 2016 at 7.30 pm) we are keeping the Feast of Corpus Christi with a glorious high mass and procession. The choir will be singing the Jonathan Dove Missa Brevis again which sounded so exciting at Ascension.

The Corpus Christi celebration will be the first of two services at which I will be marking 10 years being the Provost at St Mary's, The second one will be on Sunday 29th May. Bishop Gregor will join us for this service, the music will include the Mozart Coronation Mass and I will be preaching on the Feast of the Visitation, which was the feast on which I actually arrived 10 years ago.

Through the next few weeks we've got more Thursday Lunchtime concerts from 26 May 2016 onwards  - see here for further details: http://thecathedral.org.uk/2016/04/thursday-concerts/

We are expecting to have a confirmation service in June. Cedric Blakey (the Vice Provost) and I are happy to discuss confirmation (or baptism or reception into the Scottish Episcopal Church with anyone who would like more information.

Looking further ahead, I can now confirm that the new Canon Missioner for the Diocese, the Rev Audrey O'Brien Stewart  (who will be based at St Mary's) will be at Choral Evensong on Sunday 21 August 2016.

Regards

KELVIN
