Worship for Ash Wednesday, 17 February 2021, takes place online. This consists of:
- A video that forms a service of Holy Communion
- A hymn (‘Forty days and forty nights, Thou wast fasting in the wild’)
The Vice Provost leads this service from the Cathedral. The Provost is the deacon, Sandy Brander leads some of the prayers as does Sister Helena, who also proclaims the Gospel. Morven Bremner sings the plainsong mass setting (Mass XVI) and music at Communion, ‘Wash me thoroughly’ by David Halls. Steven McIntyre plays the voluntary at the end of this service, Lamento (Op.90, iv) by A. Guilmant, recorded at Dunblane Cathedral. The hymn, ‘Forty days and forty nights, Thou wast fasting in the wild’, is sung by Morven Bremner with Frikki Walker, organ.
