Worship – 5 December 2021

Worship for the Second Sunday of Advent (5 December 2021) takes place both in church and online. Seats for the worship taking place in church can be booked at thedatabase.thecathedral.org.uk. Places can be reserved up until an hour before the service starts.

The services at 9 am and 11 am are communion services. The service at 9 am uses plainsong, sung by a cantor. The service at 11 am includes hymns, young church and singing by the Cathedral Choir, who also sing the service of Choral Evensong at 5 pm.

Online worship is available and includes the same sermon preached at the morning services in church.

The Rev Maggie McTernan is the Celebrant at this service. The Provost, the Very Rev Kelvin Holdsworth, is the Deacon and Preacher. Mackenzie Newnham and Kate Mackenzie lead some of the prayers; the Gospel is read by the Rev Canon Audrey O’Brien Stewart; and Debbie Lewer leads the Intercessions. Morven Bremner sings the mass setting (St Anne’s Mass by James MacMillan) with Frikki Walker, organ. The voluntary at the end of the service, Chorale Prelude on Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland (BuxWV 211), is played by Steven McIntyre.

The video of the Sung Eucharist will also be available on Facebook and YouTube. The YouTube video might suit those who prefer to watch on a smart TV.
