This week the online worship consists of a Sung Eucharist from St Mary’s Cathedral and on Sunday morning there’s a zoom session for members of the Young Church members and their households.

This week, I’m both the celebrant and preacher at the this service. Robert Mawditt leads the Intercessions, Alan Richmond leads some of the prayers, and the Gospel is read by Ruth Marshall. Rosamund Thomas sings the mass setting with Frikki Walker, organ. The anthem at Communion, ‘We cannot measure how you heal’ (by John Bell and Graham Maule ©WGRG, Iona Community), is sung by the Cathedral Choir. At the end of the service, the voluntary, Prelude in A minor (BWV 543i) – JS Bach, is played by Steven McIntyre on the organ of Dunblane Cathedral.

Various members of the Cathedral congregation join with members of the Society of Catholic Priests, St Bridget Chapter to lead this liturgy written by Dr Pat Bennett of the Iona Community. Frikki Walker (Director of Music, St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow) plays seven organ improvisations based on the Gregorian hymn Adoro te devote. Pat Bennett has written new words for this tune, sung in this service by Morven Bremner, soprano.

The anthem at Communion, ‘Litany to the Holy Spirit’ by Peter Hurford, is sung by Justine Inns accompanied by Frikki Walker. At the end of the service, the voluntary, Allegro con brio (Sonata IV, i) by Mendelssohn, is played by Steven McIntyre on the organ of Dunblane Cathedral. Steven also plays Dialogue sur les grand jeu sur Veni Creator by N de Grigny, an additional organ voluntary for the Day of Pentecost. The hymn is sung by Magnus Walker accompanied by Frikki Walker.

This week’s Online Worship was produced by artist Sid Smith. Sid joined the congregation for a month, having come to Glasgow for work. Sid is the 2018 winner of the Stuart Morgan Prize for Art History and the Kevin Slingsby Prize for Funnel Vision from the University of Oxford. She uses films and drawings to examine the discomfort of class and illness. This week, Sid created several moving images to accompany the service music for the Day of Pentecost. The artist says, ‘I responded visually to the evocative and atmospheric vocal performances.’

The anthem at Communion, is plainsong – ‘Viri Galilaei’ sung by Morven Bremner. At the end of the service, the voluntary is Heut triumphieret Gottes Sohn BWV 630 – JS Bach played by Steven McIntyre on the organ of Dunblane Cathedral.
