The Feast of Pentecost falls on 23 May 2010. Members of the congregation are encouraged to wear national dress if they have it and come prepared to pray the Lord’s prayer in their own language.
The Rt Rev Gregor Duncan
The Rt Rev Gregor Duncan was consecrated in St Mary’s Cathedral on Friday 23 April 2010. About 500 people, including civic, ecumenical and international guests were present. Bishop Gregor will preach at Evensong on 25 April 2010 and join the Cathedral congregation on Ascension Day.
Consecration of New Bishop
The Very Rev Gregor Duncan will be consecrated in St Mary’s on 23 April 2010 at 6.30 pm. There will also be a special Diocesan Evensong on 25 April 2010 at 6.30 pm.
Tickets are being sent to those who have accepted invitations to the consecration service. The service on 25 April is unticketed and open to all.
Repairs
From 6 April for about 10 days, there is repair work being carried out in St Mary’s. Weekday services will continue but may be relocated within the building. During this period the west doors will remain closed, and access to the services on Sunday 11th April will be via the South doors. Update: Access will again be via the South doors on Sunday 18th April.
Easter on Radio Scotland
The Easter Celebration on Radio Scotland came from St Mary’s this year. It is now available to listen to on the BBC Website here.
Christ is Risen!
The Easter services to celebrate the resurrection are at 0700, 0830, 1030 and 1830. The 1030 service will be a jazz mass and also incorporate the Hallelujah Chorus sung by the whole congregation as the Gradual Hymn. After the service there will be a champagne reception.
Holy Week Services
St Mary’s is hosting the full range of Holy Week Services. Good Friday sees three liturgies – Morning Prayer and Veneration at 0930, Three Hour Devotions from 1200 until 1500 and Stainer’s Crucifixion in the evening. All evening services start at 1930. The Easter Vigil will take place at 0700, early in the morning on Easter Day.
The 1030 service on Easter Day will be a Jazz Mass with choir, piano, bass and drums.
The Most Rev David Chillingworth
The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church was the celebrant and preacher at the 1030 Eucharist on 14 March 2010. During his sermon, the Primus commented on his confidence for the Scottish Episcopal Church proclaiming good news in a secular world and related his sermon on the Prodigal Son to the local aspiration to make St Mary’s a place which is open, inclusive and welcoming.

Lent Devotions
Special Lent Devotions take place on Friday evenings in St Mary’s at 6.30 pm. Most weeks the format is Eucharist, Meditation and Compline. On 19 March there will be Choral Evensong for St Joseph.
